For last years Folia Magazine Christmas special i did an editorial series on Amsterdam students. With guest editor-in-chief Ron Blaauw, the dutch double Michelin starred master chef, the series was to be food related.
We followed six UvA and HvA students and portrayed them during dinner.

In following of the Occupy Wall Street movement, now they occupy Amsterdam too!
Made it to the new Folia Magazine with a spread of one of Amsterdam most beautiful sights; the IJ river. The Folia Magazine, for the University of Amsterdam, just got merged with Hogeschool van Amsterdam’s Havana and had a neat, fresh redesign. In print and online with FoliaWeb.nl. I really like the prominent use of imagery in this new design.

After quite a lot red carpet sessions, it was time for a different approach. Instead of choosing a fixed position along the carpet, i did chase the attendees in the second line, taking pictures over fellow photographers shoulders. Their hands and camera’s -still in the frame- adds nicely up to the common hectic during such a ceremony.

Sail Amsterdam 2010; the sail-in of an impressive fleet of Tall Ships, naval ships and sailing replicas, is a huge maritime event in the Netherlands. Beside the vessels on display for the public, demonstrations and other festivities, it includes one other nice attraction. With hundreds of sailors flooding the city, Sail gives a brief glimpse of the old Amsterdam as seafaring city it used to be.
Sailors, booze and girls; i love this city!

An older, finished, project worth mentioning is the Melting Pot Project. With writers Paula Yuen Lie Sie and Iris de Ridder and designer Marijn Kloosterboer, we documented the native culinary habits of over twenty new Dutch migrants. The result was a view in kitchens from South Korea to Venezuela and Tanzania to Bosnia among others. Bundled with recipes in a cookbook, published by Inmerc/Kosmos.
See for a brief summary under. Or go to the Melting Pot Project Gallery in the Portfolio Section.
